How Safe Are Online Quizzes?
Online quizzes can consist of quick surveys, personality tests, quick questionnaires, fun Buzzfeed quizzes, and so much more. Do you or your family members partake in these types of online quizzes? Well, you might want to reconsider after reading this blog post.
Online quizzes can be fun and informative at times, but it's important to be cautious when engaging with them. Your online quiz answers are easily accessible to other online users and that could give hackers a way into your systems and accounts.
Some quizzes might ask you for information about your age, preferences, dog's name, etc. and these may or may not be related to security questions or passwords you currently use for your systems.
The more information you give out in these types of online quizzes, the more a cybercriminal knows about you and your habits. What may seem like a harmless or lighthearted quiz, may actually be a gateway for a cybercriminal to access your personal information and sensitive data.
Educate Your Children
It's important to educate your children on the dangers of taking online quizzes as many do not understand the full repercussions of giving away information like their age, name, pet's name, address, birthday, etc. Not only is this dangerous to your child's safety, but it could ultimately effect your whole family, your network, and all of your other systems.
Marketing companies have been collecting and buying data off of Facebook's quizzes, games, and other applications. This data is collected to create profiles on specific users to ultimately build new marketing strategies. Cambridge Analytica claims they have data on over 230 million individuals in the U.S. alone. Each profile containing around 4000 data points with specific personal information on each user. If this information gets into the wrong hands, the dangers could be potentially severe.
So although these quick online quizzes can be fun to do, talk about, and partake in with friends, in the end, it's not worth losing your privacy over. Be cautious when participating in online quizzes and try to not give away any information about yourself that could make you a target!
